Seabound – Hooked Lyrics 12 years ago
This was my theme song for several weeks in 2005. I had met someone unlike any that I had met before, and it was a whirlwind of strong feelings and a sense of impossibility. The reference to the scene in Gattaca where the protagonist swims out to sea further and further, driven to succeed regardless of the danger, was especially compelling. For better or worse, that person is now my wife!

Seabound – Smoke Lyrics 12 years ago
This is probably a product of where I was personally in 2004 when this CD was first released, but I always interpreted "Smoke" from a political perspective. To me the symbology represents the conflict between the western world and middle eastern extremists. With the terror attacks in the U.S. (especially 9/11) and elsewhere in the western world and the resulting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, whatever provisional peace might have existed was shattered. The match was lit, the smell of gas was everywhere, and the two worlds (brothers) embarked on a path of mutual destruction. The "brother's" deep understanding reflects the clear insight of an educated foe who rejects western imperial influence and economic dominance, rather than simply "hating our freedoms". Meanwhile, the U.S. goes to war to protect the security that it has found.

Similarly, I interpreted "Exorcize" to be a reference to Osama bin Laden or Saddam Hussein, portrayed in the media as everyone's enemy #1 as a way to influence public opinion regarding the western world's influence in the middle east.

Reading interviews with Seabound, I think this is probably not what was intended, but it did have personal meaning for me as I was trying to understand the underlying patterns and motivations behind world events.
