This song is telling the story of the death of a relationship because of LIES and BETRAYAL OF LOVE AND TRUST. It is told from the point of view of the male, most likely of a married couple. The marriage was painful and rocky because his wife was probably in love with another man cheated on him and LIED to him. She kept it a secret before she just one day came out and said she wanted a divorce and he didn't know why and never understood why things were never great between them. He was BLINDED by his love for her. And he was BLINDED by her lies and refused to believe his intuition and evidence of her being with someone else because he loved her and gave her the benefit of the doubt and wanted to be with her. ;;Love is blindness, I don't wanna see Won't you wrap the night Around me Oh, my heart Love is blindness.'' The truth of his wife in love with another man was never obvious because his wife would probably lie to him about her feelings or where she was going when she left the house. For example: She would lie and say she was going to a family members house when she really went to go see another man. And when red flags came up and evidence came up that she was seeing another man, she would lie to him and he loved her so much that he doubted his suspicions, believe her and gave her the benefit of the doubt because he loved her so much. He wanted to stay with her. He also always assumed the issues in thier relationship was because of him or something else- never her. But now that he knows the truth it is so painful that he doesn't want to see it or believe it. He is almost doubting himself and begging his wife to lie to him again- BLIND him again him from the TRUTH, give him another false explanation and say that she only loves him. "I'm in a parked car On a crowded street, And I see my love Made complete. This feels like a flashback of when he probably followed his wife in his car, and he saw her together with another man on a busy street leaving a place and going home with him. ''The thread is ripping The knot is slipping. Love is blindness." This feels like a description about the binds of a relationship breaking. You "tie the knot" when you get married, and this knot here is slipping. ''Love is clockworks, And it's cold steel This is a way of saying that all the years they spent together can be compared to how you work everyday at a job. Everyday of their marriage was painful (cold steel) and work to try and make his wife love him and keep thier marriage together. Fingers too numb to feel Squeeze the handle Blow out the candle Blindness'' ''numbness'' is away of saying he is now emotionally and physically tired of working and trying to keep thier marriage together that he can no longer feel the love and at this point he doesn't care. SQUEEZE THE HANDLE: thier last argument or fight. BLOW OUT THE CANDLE: A candle or ''fire'' or ''spark'' is another way of saying the life and love in a relationship. Love is no longer there as they end thier relatonship and go thier separate ways. BLINDNESS: How his love for the woman blinded him from her lies and how he didn't know why his wife didn't love him. "A little death Without mourning No call And no warning Baby...a dangerous idea That almost makes sense" This feels like the description of the relationship's death rattle. She didn't give him a warning or reason why she just up and said she wanted a divorce, and didn't feel any pain separating from him. She never attempted to come out and tell him that she was probabaly in love with someone else. He finally found out that her heart belonged to another man and her actions, lies and the trouble in thier marriage made sense. "Love is drowning In a deep web All the secrets And no body else to tell Take the money Why don't you honey Blindness" Love is drowning because the couple are probably getting a divorce once the man finds out his wife is cheating and they obviously no longer love each other. The secrets is of how his wife lied to him and had an affair with another man. This also sounds like alimony or similar money exchange. When you divorce everything is split in half. Including the money. A REPLY TO ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS: I don't believe any meaning of this song is that concrete. It is not talking about drugs, terrorism, sex or any of that other stuff. The song means just what the title says: ''Love Is Blindness.'' Proof enough is that Jack White's version is featured in the new movie The Great Gatsby. |
