Since you wrote your fine review, Neil's book "Waging Heavy Peace" published. Among the countless interesting tidbits & anecdotes is finding out that Joni Mitchell wriote her beautiful "The Circle Game" as a response to Neil's Sugar Mountain. You write "...even though Neil was most likely addressing himself in the song with the second person, to me it is a parent singing to newly adult son." There is nothing inconsistent or unusual about adressing one's self in a parent-to-child manner. Google "self-parenting" to see where contemporary psycho-thought stands on this. Thanks again! |
