fun. – It Gets Better Lyrics 12 years ago
I would never have interpreted it as someone losing their virginity. To me it sounds like what it says, getting better, healing from something, seeing new perspectives. I base this on the line

"Like starlight, crashing through the room, we'll loose our feathers."

It reminds me of Swan lake. Odette was transformed into a swan by a bad spell but at nights she can become a human for a few hours. So in this context "Loose our feathers" wouldn't mean not being able to fly anymore but actually becoming yourself again. Just for a short period; so a step forwards and getting better but still not having reached your aim.

"I can taste your summer sweat
It's never been so warm
So can we kick the covers off?
They're always on
It's never been so warm"

I know how that sounds but couldn't it be possible that he means that they cover, hide, but he wants to get rid of the covers because he thinks they don't need them anymore ("I can taste your summer sweat, it's never been so warm") and also the covers are constraining them. He thinks they are ready to do the next step, because they already get better.

I know, Nate said it is about losing virginity but 1. I am not so sure if he was serious about that and 2. this is how I'd like to see it. As a motivational song that things will get better soon.
