wow, that was the most ignorant comment ive seen on this website. first off, you say "why spend so much energy bashing others" as you are bashing her... something screams ironic here. also, just a word of advice, don't believe everything you read on the internet. i highly doubt from her other songs that she is homosexual, and if she was, so what! but i think the main problem i have with what you said was that she is arrogant, insecure (those dont really go together by the way) and " uncomfortable with her choice to be an atheist.." she may or may not be an atheist but i am led to believe that she is not one. (we share the same personality type, infp) and i view religion in general in a similar way to her. she has songs that are actually in favor of god (laughing with is my best example although people can interpenetrate it to be a god-bashing song). i used to be a "strong christian" but began to question my faith a few years ago. i have concluded, after much emotional uncertainty, that there are no answers we can be sure of. i view religion as a madlib of sorts to temporarily satisfy the urge to know the unknown. she even said in an interview that she likes to explore religion and figure it out because it is fascinating. i think this song shows her observations of dogmatic Christians who dont truly care about anything but how "holy" they look and dont care if people are damned to hell because they view them as lesser. i got off on a bit of a tangent but my advice to you "rolypolywoofwoof", is to consider more perspectives before writing off wonderful people. you are much like the legalistic persons regina laughs at in her piece and maybe thats why you naturally rejected her cleaver masterpiece. |

actually, i change this a little. i think daniel cowman is heroin boy. he got executed for being an addict. he talks to heroin boy but maybe thats just him reasoning with himself. both he (in third person) and heroin boy take off their belts which is a reference to shooting heroin and go in the bath. thats why heroin boy says a man destined to hang cant drown because people who do heroin go in baths to relax but he knew he wouldnt die from overdose, but execution. this probably makes no sense and im just rambling but i just got outa algebra class so excuse this poor mess of nonsensical word vomit |

i believe that daniel cowman is currently dead when recounting his death sentence in third person. he is confused that the world did not end when his ended, hence the first sentence. then he goes into telling his restrictions of being dead. i think herion boy is a symbol of the grim reaper or death in general and he tries to explain to daniel that he should be at peace with the way he dies because it is his destiny. the song makes sense that way when rereading it but i have yet figgured out small details like the balloons or bar scene. |
