Cyndi Lauper – Time After Time Lyrics 12 years ago
I feel this song can be interpreted as a conversation between an adult and their 'inner self' or 'inner child' if you like. Pardon my use of the term 'inner child' I use it only for illustration purposes.

"Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you"

- We sometimes lay away troubled or lost... We hear the clock tick and it reminds us that time is fleeting. We think of times past. A child, we once were.

We suffer as adults with pain and confusion, love and loss. The strong person in this is the child within.

"If you're lost you can look--and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you--I'll be waiting
Time after time"

This is the strong inner self speaking to the troubled, lost self.

Ironically, it is our inner child that is the person that will love us unconditionally throughout life and will be there for us. Like a Parent would to its' child.

I'm not going to be pedantic pick through each line in the song. I suggest you consider my interpretation and listen to the song again.

The original version is definitive. Great arrangement, superb production... it leaves room for volume. So, press play and turn it up!

Great covers out there too, but I think any great song covered is but a facsimile.

Tina Turner – Simply The Best Lyrics 12 years ago
This is about putting someone on a pedestal. The person speaking in the song is needy and weak of heart. The middle eight says alot

"Each time you leave me I start losing control
You're walking away with my heart and my soul
I can feel you even when I'm alone
Oh baby, don't let go"

The person speaking will lose control if the other leaves them.

"I can feel you even when I'm alone" - Obsessive

"Oh baby, don't let go" - Possessive

End of the chorus - "Tear us apart... No no. Baby I would rather be dead" - The person speaking would rather feel nothing than the pain of the other 'tearing them apart'

Just my 2 cents... Says allot about me, eh?
