Neko Case – The Next Time You Say Forever Lyrics 12 years ago
This album seems like it was written for my life sometimes. This song in particular reflects an experience I have had recently.

The trembling, the fight or flight, the clumsy self consciousness of stumbling and scraping your paws. This is someone who is dealing with insecurity, PTSD, or a hindering mindstate. They feel a close attachment to the singer as someone who can understand, heal, connect and they fall in love. Fast.

The feeling is reciprocated, but not in the way that is wanted and a casual friendship is attempted, but doomed to fail. "I can't stay here to hold your hand"

Then the singer feels the awkward feeling of being that last hope of someone whose fragile mental state cracks, the too soon love and infatuation putting the singer on a pedestal. "and that's a dirty fallow feeling to be the dangling ceiling when the roof comes crashing down."

Even after romance is denied by the singer and friendship is declared possible, the person clings to romantic notions of life time friendship, being close forever, and it makes the singer want to punch that guy in the face with the threat of cutting off contact. "You'll never know when I'll show you the never"

Such a sad song what a heartbreaker.
