This song is about Layne Staley, written by Eddie when he learned Layne was dead. "So all you fools who sing just like him, feel free to do so, because he's dead..." This is basically Eddie criticizing everyone who tried to emulate Layne after he passed, simply because he did. "Using, using, using, the using takes hold" Here Eddie talks about how using takes a hold on your life, and slowly crushes the life out of it. "Isolation, happy to be one" Not sure what this line means, possibly meaning Layne was isolated, and just happy to be in one piece "Sad to, sad to think, sad to think of him alone" Referring to how Eddie felt when he thought about Layne, and how he couldn't help his sick friend. "Lonesome friend, we all knew Always hoped you'd pull through" This is basically Eddie saying to Layne they all knew that he was close to death, but could do nothing but hope that he pulled through "No blame, no blame No blame, it could be you Using, you can't grow old using" Eddie says here that nobody is blaming Layne for his addiction, and how it feels like using is the only thing keeping you going. "So sing just like him, fuckers It won't offend him Just me Because he's dead" Pretty self explanatory, Layne won't be offended by people ripping him off, because he's dead. But Eddie will be, because Layne was his friend. |
