You guys have got it all wrong. It's written to seem like he's describing a school-yard fight, but the bridge makes it very clear that this is an allegory for terrorist attacks against America. "Didn't even know that you and I were cross Until a sneak attack on the weak side Unaware that we were in a fight" This describes that many Americans were caught off guard by the 9/11 attacks and had no clue who attacked us and why. "I honestly want peace with you But when you come against my country When you come against my family You try to destroy my people I can't just stand by" Again, he'd rather not be at war, but given the blatant attack on U.S. sovereignty, the hand has been forced. |
