This song shows two sides to pushing away your friends. Say goodbye Lose your friends Make them go Don't need them around To me, the person is trying to convince themselves to let their friends go. Telling themselves, "You don't need them." To me it is about outgrowing people. Some times we have things going for us and our friends are holding us back. They were too weak too prone to break They're needs too deep their skin too thin By now you took what was to take Tear it apart and start again To me it's like the friends didn't quite understand their friend. Didn't understand what it was or didn't even know anything about it. Which can be hard. But basically someone is pulling away from their friends from outgrowing them and their friends aren't taking it well. And when the main person tries to explain what is going on nicely this is where their skin is thin and all that. I look at it like this because I've been going through this. I'm outgrowing two good friends, but they are stuck and holding me back. |

| Pixies – I've Been Tired Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Rereading it it seems like he is even making fun of the whole social thing of looking for sex. Like making all of this conversation and having drinks is this silly routine designed just as a game. | |

| I think he is simply poking fun at how people look at sex and how they treat it like it is no big deal. The song clearly has some humor in it, making me think he is just poking fun at sex how we look at it. Sex has become this thing people just do and assume it is normal to do with whoever you are with at the time. It's just there the singer doesn't see why people put so much emphasis on it and I think he is looking for something more. Maybe being picky with who he sleeps with. Maybe that is what the whole losing his penis is about. He doesn't want to just sleep with someone he wants to hold sex in a higher regard. | |

It sounds like this girl is pressuring him into something. When he says You're not the one who needs to tell me about the birds and the bees. Sounds like maybe she is promiscuous. And in a sense he is saying, Well you're one to talk. maybe she cheated, then he did? This is a possibility but.. I take it as if maybe there is a girl with more sexual experience pushing this boy into something and he's not ready. Like two teenagers maybe. And the girl probably a little bit older. |

A user here mentioned this being about this being about God. It certainly could be. The signs are there. (Especially the title) > Conceal me from the ghost you cast away Could be about the devil > Fill their heads with rumors of impending doom Not getting right with God, Apocalypse, whatever > I heard you found a wishing well > In the city Maybe moving to Vegas caused Flowers to question or lose faith, maybe he started to get off track with his Faith There are signs all through out this song that it has to do with Flower's faith. ------------- I always looked at it like leaving things behind. Moving on and away to build up your own life. Losing touch with family and friends. It talks about taking time. Like it's your own path and you're working on it. You'll get there when you get there. Then it talks about making it back home. But look at it like this because it applies to me that way. Honestly, what makes the most sense is losing faith. I think the song is probably about Flower's faith becoming weak and maybe him finding it again. |

I always thought he said, "God takes care of himself, and you are you." Like he was saying God is looking out for him and we have to look out for our self. Kind of like God isn't what we expect. |

I've got a different perspective than most. David Bazan has often struggled to find God. He tries and tries. This song is about that. Now Jesus said he'd fill my needs But my heart still bleeds He's just not physical Bazan wants something physical. He doesn't believe because he can't see it. Now we've established lack of sight Maybe vision's the right word For what I need Cause I can't see with human eyes Lord knows I've tried To follow where he leads Bazan just isn't understanding religion. He's tried to find God but still hasn't. This song is about trying to find God and failing. Or so I take it. Very good song. |

Definitely a married woman There's a ring around She don't keep around She don't fool around When she fools around I think "he gets schooled around" means she plays him. maybe he doesn't know what's going on? The "boy who never thought to fool around" means her husband was loyal. So he moves around And gets schooled around Cause she fools around On a boy who never thought to fool around I think the husband leaves the wife but then cheats on the next woman he was with There's a girl in town And she's cooler now So he's moving out Out where it's cooler now And he moves around And gets schooled around And he fools around On a girl who never thought to fool around |
