I like what Black mantis says best. I'm not sure what i think this song means though. I feel with it though. I am safe without it is such a powerful statement and it resonates deeply with me. I am safe without a lot of things. my mother's overprotectiveness. This fucking town. without my body or mind or heart. in other ways cigarettes. I look forward to seeing something new is the part that strikes the deepest as i have been for years to the point that it's wearing on me and this song feels like the release of that painful strain associated with needing to be free of it all so desperately. Sigh Daniel Kessler and team Interpol can really write some lyrics regardless of what they mean.

I agree with the first part there are many subway rides especially through Brooklyn where Interpol is from. There are naked, raw open views into the cascades of the concrete jungle that is New York City. I feel as if when he states " The pavements they are a mess" He may be referring to the fact that NY streets are flooded with people everyday and there is the ocean that is NYC traffic and the rivers. It's a city of motion. They are street performers, homeless, tourists, food, dirt, urine everything. God I LOVE NY with all my heart. I'm so proud to have called it my home. NY is a stage Turn on the bright lights is just saying like here it is now turn it on. |
