Lana Del Rey – Money, Power, Glory Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think this song is the 3rd Part to National Anthem from her Born To Die album and Gods & Monsters from her Paradise album. In both songs she gets thrust into fame and loses her innocence and becomes a power/money hungry person ("You said to be cool but, I'm already coolest. I said to 'get real, don't you know who you're dealing with?' Um, do you think you'll buy me lots of diamonds?" From National Anthem) who doesn't really care about religion ("God's dead I said baby that's all right with me" from Gods & Monsters). This song shows her current escapades in the land of gods and monsters which is using men for her personal benefit. By getting into relationships with wealthy and well-known men she is able to "take [him] for all that [he's] got" by getting his money, power and glory. But this isn't to be taken literal. Just like the other two songs, here Lana depicts the problems of being in the public eye. She is saying that she wants to take the society as a whole for all that it's got. She's gonna milk this for as long as she can since the culture of placing celebrities on god/goddess-like pedestals allows her to acquire money, power and glory just like she would if she were conning a wealthy man. |
One Direction – Happily Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song is about two people who aren't necessarily in a relationship but do care deeply about each other (I can't help but see it as a girl and a boy who are best friends). The girl is already in a relationship so whatever they have is forbidden for the time being but they (more so the singer) doesn't care. They're closeness already is being judged (leads me back to the best friend thing because people say that a girl and boy can't be "just friends") by those around them. The line "I know you wanna leave" could possibly allude to her being unhappy in her relationship (obviously if you're in love with someone else) or just tired of being judged and in the public eye. Overall this is a sweet song about going for the one you love regardless of the outside circumstances. If you love them enough you'll go for it no matter what. |
One Direction – Don't Forget Where You Belong Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think this song is about a lot of things. 1. It about not losing yourself or who you are. Often times with fame people can lose sight of who they really are and let the fame change you. The message 'don't forget where you belong' is somewhat a reminder that no matter how big these boys may get they should remember their pasts and how it wasn't always like this. 2. Not getting lost in the crowd. Again with fame sometimes you can get overwhelmed and fell lost in a sea of people. Being away from your loved ones can make you feel lonely and this is a reminder that there is always someone who loves them and will be there for them, but more importantly, that they will always be there for each other (If you eve feel alone, don't. You were never on your own and the proof is in this song). 3. Reassurances to their loved ones back home. With touring, award shows, interviews, and promotions these guys spend a lot of time away from home and the people they love. This song was written as a sort of reassurance that no matter how far away they go for however long of a time, they'll always return to home. 4. Staying together as a band. There have been plenty of rumors that the band are breaking up and solo careers so this is their message to each other and their fans that they belong in the band and no where else. ("I feel like I'm dreaming. Oh, so I know, I know, I know, I know that I'm never leaving. No, I won't go.") Also this is saying that when they're away for long periods of time that they are their own little sense of home. I find that this idea especially resonates in the line "Don't matter how far I've gone I'm always feeling at home." meaning that the boys are each others homes as well. These are just a few of my ideas of what the song is about. |
One Direction – You and I Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think this song is talking about being in a relationship where the two are drastically different, if not, opposites. They reference many opposites (i.e. day and night, silence and sound, up and down, wrong and right, black and white, etc.) stating that they understand what it's like for them, however, the relationship is much too strong ("not even the gods above could separate the two of us") to be broken apart by their differences or anything else for that matter. Despite what may come their way they're going to fight through it together ("but they never tried like us"). I find this a very sweet song about getting through the tough spots of relationships in order to be with the person you truly love. |
Paramore – Proof Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think this song is about being away from the person you love and hearing rumors about all of the things they're doing while they're away from you. Instead of believing the rumors she has complete faith in her loved one. "It’s really hard, I can’t cry in your arms ‘cause you’re not here. It’s not your fault and if it was I wouldn’t care. My heart is bigger than the distance in-between us. I know it ‘cause I feel it beating." -She's sad because he's gone for a reason that he couldn't control but her love for him is bigger than the distance. "So strong it'll knock you down. So strong, so strong." -Talking about her love. "Over here, I can't count the miles away, from where I wanna be." -She wishes she could be where he is. "I bet your skin is warm and that you're smiling. Yeah, that’s what I always loved the most about you. You’re so strong come and knock me down, hey." -She's thinking of her favorite things about him. "Baby, if I’m half the man I say I am if I’m a woman with no fear just like I claim I am. Then I believe in what you say there’s nothing left for you to do. The only proof that I need is you." -If she's as strong as she says then she'll believe what he says not the rumors because she trusts him and he's the only proof she needs. "I’ll get in my car drive it faster than I ever did before. Head out west until I finally reach the shore. And then I’ll swim out to wherever you are." -She misses him so much that she willing to swim across the ocean to him. "And we'll ride the undercurrent down to the floor. Making friends with all the unfamiliar creatures and pushing back all the unnecessary pressure. Come up for air just so you know we won’t drown." -She's saying that they can just take a break from the world, make new friends and forget about all of the pressure. "You’re so strong. The world can't keep us down, hey!" -What other people say won't effect us. "So do you love me? All you gotta do is say yes. Now do you love me? And I won’t ever second guess. Now do you love me? All you gotta do is say yes. Now do you love me? Then you already proved it." -As long as you love me then I'll believe you and not worry about what others are saying. |
