I gotta say, being a pastor's kid, growing up in the church, and falling in love with a man who was (at the time) a closet transgender... This song really hits home for me. My hubby/girlfriend has now come partially out, but telling the two extreme Christian families this is who he/she is, and who I love dearly, is going to be hard. I cried when I heard Mary's chorus... It was exactly how I feel towards my love. And to the people who believe you choose this life, and aren't born with it: My husband fought with himself for YEARS trying to get rid of his female self... begged God, went down to the altar at many different churches, pleaded with pastors to heal him, and fasted for days. Finally, a couple years ago, when I told him to just accept her, he was free. He no longer falls asleep crying out to God for acceptance; now he just accepts himself, and lives his/her life. |
