James Taylor – New Tune Lyrics 12 years ago
There is that line:
There's been a baby there, of:

"It's written in the surface of her skin,
There's been a baby there, given away in love.
I see it in the little lines
Around her eyes, across her brow.
She'll be drifting away from me now.
She'll shape all the feeling
That's not quite there inside my soul."

And toward the end, "I will fly away" and I see so much allusion to James' very good friend, Joni Mitchell. I wonder if this was a song to her, acknowledging quietly her personal history, sadnesses, things perhaps between them. She's shaped many feelings henceforth...

Of course "Little Green" preceded their friendship and meeting by many years, but it had to be a thing they talked about in their not just musical friendship (and he played extensively on Blue at the time of her recording that song.) Anyway, I've always wondered who that was, whose surfaces all that was written upon. Its one of his most intimate and beautiful songs by all measure.
