I've always known this song was about dying, but when my own dad was in the intensive care unit 750 miles away and I rushed down to see him, this song came on my mp3 player and I came to terms that what I was doing was going to say goodbye, not going to see him recover. It broke my heart to see him like that. He was in a coma and not responsive to hearing us or feeling us hold his hand. We had to let him go. Goodbye, Daddy. You were a good man and a loving father. I will love you always. |

***trigger warning*** I just heard this for the first time, and it took me immediately back to the worst night of my life, a night where I was actually tied to my own bed and didn't know if I'd live to see the dawn. "You were high when I was doomed..." I don't want to get into it too much, but it did make me a better person in spite of him. I went on to become an advocate for survivors of rape.
