Janis Joplin – Mercedes Benz Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is seriously entertaining when you turn it up loud and drive with the windows down in your Mercedes-Benz. Or it could make you look like you're not in touch with reality. Or just plain greedy to ask for it when you've already got one. Save some prayer room for the poor git who only has a beemer.

Nick Kershaw – The Riddle Lyrics 12 years ago
Always good when someone is upfront and says there's no real meaning to the lyrics (instead of trying to eff with your mind). Most songwriters never admit to it (or make up a meaning). This is a song which really has no meaning. That is why it is called The Riddle. It is just a smart person, playing with smart words. He had the rhyme but not the reason and if people read much more into, it is an even bigger success than being a hit when it actually creates thoughts. The album, "Human Racing" was one brilliant album, and so varied in style. An eerie thing happened to me last year. I was discussing this song with my soulmate one morning and later that day, they played it on the radio. That synchronicity told me something.

Howard Jones – What Is Love? Lyrics 12 years ago
"What Is Love" screams unconditional love, and is interesting because it is such an unlovey-dovey love song. The title must have already been quoted by half the world - I keep hearing over the years.

HoJo songs (despite the sound) are extremely wise and deep and meaningful. His lyrics show his great understanding of life and love. Some of his songs have deep spiritual meaning.

Kid Creole And The Coconuts – Stool Pigeon Lyrics 12 years ago
Great party song with lots of energy (just like most of the songs from the same album) - even if the lyrics don't particularly suit the music...

ABC – King Money Lyrics 12 years ago
Absolutely LOVE the lyrics in Beauty Stab (as well as in The Lexicon of Love). Brilliant, to say the least. And so very British.

"King Money" taught me, at the age of 15, how shallow materialistic and money-crazy people can be. And it has stuck - I still think very little of people whose king is money and who are slaves to fashion and brands. Sadly, the world is full of materialistic people who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

"So if your king is money
Then I feel sorry for you"

Will Smith – Shadow Dreams Lyrics 12 years ago
One of my favourite songs. If you feel like giving up on anything, this song will give you the motivation you need to keep going. Such inspirational lyrics and so positive and straight forward, which is what I have always loved about Will Smith. It is so true what is said - "you're not far behind if your shadow (dream) dies". I wish more lyrics like this could be written. The world might be a nicer place.

Catherine Deneuve & Malcolm McLaren – Paris Paris Lyrics 12 years ago
So very Paris. An all-time favourite which (nearly 20 years later) I still play over and over again, wherever I am in the world as well as when I am in Paris. Anyone who is a Francophile and who loves Paris will love this song (as well as "Jazz Is Paris"). Malcolm McLaren was a genius and is sadly missed, and together with the magnificent Catherine Deneuve - wow, what a combination...

Depeche Mode – Somebody Lyrics 12 years ago
DM were always deeper and darker than the other British bands in the 80s. Despite that, this is actually one of the sweetest love songs which gives you a glimpse into two things: the British psyche and approach to love and also the famous British humour.

As for the Martin Gore interview, well, it is a bit of a sad insight into him (if it's true). At the end of the day, why wouldn't you sing this song about a special somebody? It speaks the truth about love (and relationships built on love), and this is particularly true when you love someone:

"All the things I detest
I will almost like"

New Order – Guilt Is a Useless Emotion Lyrics 12 years ago
The suspense thrills you from the sound of the heart beating at the start... You can almost feel the energy from this song hitting against your skin. Oh no, it must've been the vibration from my car speakers. Nevertheless, a most powerful song, with the typical New Order lyrics which make you think..."is it really as straight forward as love or is there a deeper meaning?"

Oasis – Half The World Away Lyrics 12 years ago
First took notice of this song on the Royle Family last year and just heard the entire song today and it struck a chord (no pun intended). The person "Androcles" is talking about sounds so much like me: stuck living in Dullsville (Perth, Australia) and still not out of this dump yet and my love is half the world away.
