Aesop Rock – Big Bang Lyrics 12 years ago
To add, the verses are him speaking free-flow about the state of affairs in the world in general, and building on the essence of the chorus, i.e. him being a prophet of sorts.

Aesop Rock – Big Bang Lyrics 12 years ago
This is simply Aes' version of the classic hip-hop bravado/autobiographical track.
He's talking about himself and his place as an artist and most importantly a philosophical leader. Any other legitimate interpretation merely adds to this basic premise.

Nas has One Mic, Snoop has What's My Name, Biggie had Hypnotize, RIP, Aesop has Big Bang.

It all comes from the chorus, which is pretty straightforward. He wants to be a Big Bang, he wants substance, seeks relevance and impact. Armed with a tome and cross like a true prophet, sore to the bone, embattled from shouldering heavy knowledge. He Must Warn Others, he is aware of the hypocrisies and evils of the world, and therefore irked, forlorn. The Big Dig was under construction in Boston when he was attending college there in the mid 90's and starting his career as a rapper, probably constantly ruminating about these very ideas as a younger man - like the symbolic Dig he's getting deep to an extreme degree, undertaking a tremendous mission of earth-moving and uncovering. And he will burn with his light, his prime concern to show his worth and benefit his fellow man.

That's it
