Late Night Alumni – Finally Found Lyrics 12 years ago
I've been in love with this song the second I heard it, but it's pretty hard to interpret.
The first part of the stanza reminds me a lot of a girl at a party, and the boy she likes/loves (or THOUGHT she did) cracks a joke about her, one that's really hurtful or personal. She realizes later that she should have broken in to defend herself, but at the time she laughed and pretended it didn't affect her.
'You know what you want but you get what you said that you know you've always said that you wanted instead.' This may mean that the boy truly loves the girl, but he hardly ever shows it, and often says/acts as though he doesn't want her.
'I know what I want and suddenly it's the sound of you off to the side saying, I'm finally found.' This could be the same girl wishing the best for the boy.

Second stanza: Later in the party, the guy corners the girl, perhaps trying to apologize but unable to bring himself to say sorry, and attempts to communicate that he regrets what he's done without words (hope you understand that). She's confused about why he is doing this, and angry that he even tries, but she's at a loss for words, and chooses to deny him because he hasn't given her a reason why she shouldn't.
Or maybe I'm wrong. That's just my take on the whole thing.
