Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the composer and his wife lost a child sometime before this song was written. It seems like the roles are reversed, and the singer is dying, and the child will live on. Wishful thinking on his behalf, but very understandable. another painfully intimate song from TPT - the best band I've heard for an awfully long time. |

It's about wanting to change one's situation, and the terrible struggle against inertia or the desire to stay safe in the same old rut. The "rowing" metaphor represents the backbreaking effort involved. The music in this song is just awesome. |
