| Andrew Belle – Replace Me Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
My interpretation is that "I'm fighting sleep right now" is presumably about deep thoughts not allowing him to sleep. "I walked through the thickness of your heart... I wrote the melody that brought you back to life, love" means that he was in a relationship with a girl who had been badly hurt before and his love brought her back to life and healed her wounds. "Who says we're wrong for opening the wrong doors?" Is a rhetorical question that he doesn't want answering, it's all part of the experience. "Lock up - swallow the key, you'll never replace me" this rhyme shows that he thinks that she's made a big mistake by ending their relationship and she won't ever replace their relationship. The line "We've all fallen for someone we're wrong for" shows that he accepts they were not right for each other and wants to move on. Her "weakling anti-bodies" were previously unable to stand up for herself up until this relationship, which ties into him bringing her "back to life". "I fell like Jack for Jill and you came tumbling after" - he fell for her quickly but she took her time to fall for him much more carefully. She's careful and she stands "up for herself". The next bit is a little ambiguous as it's a little bit muddled, that they both blame themselves "You're blaming all this on yourself BUT the photograph that's on your shelf is a younger, dumber version of myself". This shows that they've been in a long term relationship and that the split is mutual, not just her fault. "Back then I told you if you fall I'll fall too" - they loved each other but "lock up swallow the key, you'll never replace me". Meaning that she can get a better relationship than this, perhaps because she left him for something more that he doesn't believe is possible. Beautiful song and I did my best with this interpretation! |

| Andrew Belle – I'll Be Your Breeze Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I think this song is about a long distance relationship: "If he could he would shrink down to fit through the holes... Into your arms" that he desperately wants to work, he just wants to be with her. "We'd learn to distinguish truth from false alarms" I think means they need to be together to seperate the truth from any rumours/ miscommunications between them. The line "And we'll fall asleep every night so easily" because they'll be together as opposed to having difficulty sleeping from being seperated. "C'est la vie" literally translates into 'That's life" - there's nothing we can do to change it... but, "I'll be your breeze". He'll be your breeze of fresh air whenever you need him. "I finally feel like myself, honey don't you feel like yourself?" - they're reunited and feel like a perfect puzzle that's finally put together. The line "I learned we all play our part in this thing, we've all got a song we were put here to sing" means the relationship works if they both put effort in, we're all here for a reason. "It's less of a circle and more of a ring" could mean that he's proposed with a ring (and as he's married, this could well be the case!) This relationship works because he'll "Be like that heart that you cut out and pinned on your sleeve" - a metaphor that she wears her heart on her sleeve and that she's honest and loving towards him. He tells her that he "needed you just to keep breathing." This could be taken that he needs her so he can survive. I can't believe nobody has commented on this! Andrew Belle is so underrated but is probably my favourite musician of all time, so I thought I'd write my interpretation! |

| Dry The River – Bible Belt Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I think the meaning behind this, as already stated is about a teenage girl with two alcoholic parents: "Your mother is drinking again" / "Your father had drunk all the fuel". I think the girl is young because she still relies on her parents but is forced into adulthood to be strong for her sisters: "March your sisters like soldiers to school". The line "steady with wintry calm" is about remaining calm but cold, almost like she's isolated from everyone including her parents. "Somewhere inside the fire in your youth went dark" is a reference to her innocence and childhood which was taken from her - by forcing her into adult duties when she should have been able to be a child. Next, the line "You swear blind there is no weight in the water pail" shows that she does not admit how her life is a burden upon her, she doesn't show how difficult it is. Then, in reference to the line "Somewhere inside the fire in your youth went dark", she says "You take the cards that you're dealt... If it's dark outside, you light the fire yourself" - you have to do things for yourself to light up your world. I think it's to show that her youth may have been taken from her and it had been darkened, but she can light up the fire inside. Then, the tone changes and it's a lot more hopeful. Her lover/friend tells her that he'll be on his way and tells her to meet him: "meet me at the railway line". He tells her not to "cower in your bed" and not to "look so scared" - be brave, face your fears. The line "We've been through worse than this before we could talk" shows the extent of what they've both been through and they can help each other and that there's hope for a brighter future. "The trick of it is, don't be afraid any more" - have faith. You could also take this the other way in that they would end their lives together, but I definitely think this is not the case. It's hopeful and looking like they could help each other for the future. This is just my opinion and you might disagree! Amazing band. |

| Dry The River – Demons Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I think this song is about sheltering a loved one. The loved one fears death but "death is a force not a man on a horse", thus it cannot be defeated. "I'll keep you safe while you sleep" is the desire to keep her from death for as long as possible as he doesn't want to lose her because he loves her: "North isn't true 'till it's leading me to you". I'm unsure of the Biblical reference of Mary and Joe but I assume these are either Jesus' mother or his wife and Joseph son of Jacob. The line "We fight those demons day in and day out" I think means we fight fears every day but we shouldn't. This is just my opinion but this is how I take it and it's truly a beautiful song. |
