If you've ever read Paper Towns by John Green, this song shares the common theme. In Paper Towns, the main character's friend looks over the city of Orlando from a tall building and explains how the town is made entirely of paper, paper girls, paper boys, all with their paper problems. Replace paper with plastic, and both the song and the book imply the theme that everything is flimsy and fake, like the earth is made entirely out of paper. This song is absolutely brilliant. I think it's trying to say that the entire earth is made up of these fake plastic problems, except for the one girl he says is the "real thing". He inflicts self pity when saying that he doesn't deserve her and she is worth more than his fake plastic love. |
