According to an interview with John Lydon, he claims the song was about "The Manor", a recording studio then owned by Richard Branson of Virgin Records which also had room and board accommodations. Lydon claimed to have see a ghost at the manor and issued the following statement in an interview: "I'd seen a few things I didn't like," says Lydon significantly. "I ended up sleeping in the coal shed, I couldn't bear it in the house any longer. When a place is haunted there's an intensity which is insufferable. I do tend to see a lot of that kind of thing, ghosties and ghoulies. I saw shadows, people in rooms who weren't there, felt intense cold for no reason."
