Penholder is about Lacey saying that she doesn't deserve any of this. "I feel your eyes crawling over me As though I am something more than me But I don't have anything good enough to say I did not make myself this way." = All her fans praise her and love her for something that she's not technically doing. And they expect so much from her but It's not her who's doing this, It's God, she didn't make herself this way on her own. "I'll show you what he did, But I won't take the credit It's not mine anyway I just held the pen that day." = Lacey singing and expressing herself in her songs is a way of showing her fans that she's going to show them what He did, but she won't take the credit because It's not entirely her work. She wrote the songs on paper but It wasn't her. "And I don't deserve this This time right now It's not something for which I can take the bow And I don't deserve this." = Lacey saying she doesn't deserve all of this, the praise, the glory, the love, the recognition etc. She can't say "Oh thank you! I worked really hard on it! I think I did a good job!" Because It wasn't her. (He didn't really say that this is just a reenactment.) And now Lacey (years later after she has been saved) "You are the truth and You saved my life!" She's thanking Him. "The warmth of your embrace Melts my frostbitten spirit You speak the truth and I hear it The words are I love you And I have to believe in you." = The warmth of Jesus' presence is melting the cold bitterness inside and is making it a warm feeling. "When I said good morning I was lying I was truly thinking of How I might quit waking up." = Basically when Lacey was about to commit suicide, she woke up that day not wanting to be alive anymore, and that day, her family never knew that that SAME day, she was going to end her life. "He pointed out how selfish It would be to kill myself So I keep waking up." = But when she went to Church, a Priest came a saved her and cried for her and that night that she was going to commit suicide, she was saved! And now everyday/night she thanks Him and that ending your life is not that right way out. "It feels so much like falling Dying while I wait to die The fear of something or nothing Lonely empty lie." = She felt like dying and was actually going to commit suicide that night. She was going to do it no matter if she was afraid or not, and when everybody would ask her how was her day, she would always lie and say "Good" or put on a fake smile. (when I said good morning I was lying..) "I don't want to be here, lying I don't want to be selfish anymore I want so much to change Learning your love everyday There's still so much to know." = She doesn't want to lie, sin, cheat etc anymore she wants to be clean and change and she starts by learning God's love everyday and practicing faith. "You grip my wrists I let go." = Satan grips her wrists and she is tied and bound together but now she breaks free and is not controlled by him anymore. |

No one had to tell her, she understood herself. This song is about Noah's Ark, If you read the chorus, she's saying.. "Here you are down on your knees again." = When Noah told the people that a great flood would come, they didn't believe him, but now the people are on their knees trying to furiously pray to God asking for help, over and over. "Trying to find air to breathe again." = They are trying to find air to breathe, they can't breathe underwater, they "want" to believe but it's already too late. "Only surrender will help you now." = There's no point in trying to escape, so surrendering is the best way in this situation.
