For some reason, this makes me think of a single father trying to protect his child from the world. He's done some bad things in the past, and even though his child is old enough to know, they're so bright and innocent that he doesn't want to ruin that innocence. Towards the end, he's starting to decide that he doesn't want to lie to them, and their innocence keeps him grounded. He's also terrified that his child is going to hate him when they find out about his past, and he doesn't want to lose them. |

This is one of my favorite songs. I agree with toastguy that it does sound like the marriage betwen Hippolyta and Theseus. It also reminds me of Norse mythology. Namely, Loki. He was a frost giant, but he was clever and tricky. Odin found him, and they became blood brothers. Odin then gave Loki a norse goddess named Sigunn. She was the opposite of Loki, who was wild and untameable. Loki ended up having children with another frost giantess, who matched him more closely.
Another thing this song reminds me of is the TV show Supernatural. One of the main characters, Dean, is a hunter of supernatural creatures. When his brother is killed, he tries to settle down into a normal life. Hunting is in his blood, though so he's restless. He ends up hunting again.
Personally, I think that this song is about two people in a relationship, but the woman is being stifled and sheltered by her boyfriend/fiancee/husband. She wants to be free. In the beginning, it's saying that she comes home to find her boyfriend is awake and waiting for her, and when she passes his room, he lectures her about staying out so long. He acts like she's his queen, but she wants to be a hunter again. Not a hunter of animals, but a sort of loner who wants to explore the world instead of being tied down by her husband. |

I really like this song. A few (I find only two though) translations can be found in it. One is that it's about he broke up with his now-ex-girlfriend but he still wants to be with her and still would do anything for her. Another that I found is about someone going to war. The line 'and your call comes then I'll come running to fight' could be taken as a call for being enlisted as a soldier. The line 'when there's nothing worth running for' could mean that they think that they think that they want to be enlisted because there's nothing else worth doing. They want to join, but their family doesn't because then they might be killed. Their mind is made up to join, and they're saying that there's no point in trying to change it. Then the part about running away could be about how they're disdainful about soldiers who try to run at the first sight of a battle. |

I really love this song. It's really pretty, in music, lyrics, and image. The way Sting sung it is so poetic, and thinking about the lyrics makes me think of Alaskan summers, even though they're not gold. I think it's a love song, and beautifully written. It's one of my favorites. |

I love this song. I heard it first on 'The Vampire Diaries' and a few months later, I fell in love with it. I love the lyrics and the music itself. I'm not really sure if I can really compare my life with it, but it's still wonderful. It's really emotional, and it probably could hold a lot of meaning with a bunch of people. |
