Hahaha - quite the opposite. LSD destroyed his genius. It's quite obvious. That said, it certainly influenced his work - it was way too much of a 'good' thing for him though.

you are correct to a point - but Clare Torry was directed to think about death when she was asked to add vocals to the song. and the lyrics support that. |

Wow - please read up on the group. Syd left the group (Jan 1968) over 4 years before Dark Side was written (1972) later released in 1973. Syd did show up in the studio when Floyd was making an album, but not Dark Side. He showed up in 1974 when Wish You Were Here was being written (later released in 1975). the song is about death. Claire Torry (who created and sang the ethereal vocals) was directed to think about death, and she created the vocals on the spot. |

you're almost there - except you're not describing a cycle. A cycle is something that goes around and comes back to the beginning...this is a purely linear thought - A abuses B, B abuses C, C grows up to abuse his audience. It never comes back to A as C (Pink) has no relationship with A (teacher's wife).
It is simply cause and effect described here. Pink (recall that Pink is NOT autobiographical of Roger Waters) is upset at being restrained in thought and self expression in school and blames the teacher's miserable home life (and the school system) for his feeling of being trapped in an abusive system. |

WOW - yet again people are looking way too far into these lyrics. The song is about love. Pure and simple. the lyrics above are just about meeting someone on the street. The following: Almost everyday you fall
Upon my waking eyes,
Inviting and inciting me
To rise.
well....what happens when a guy wakes up in the morning next to his naked girlfriend??? Not too hard to imagine. The song is fantastic, but is not as full of deep meaning as people are trying to assign it. |

Not to be critical, but too many of these interpretations read WAY too much into some of these earlier works. Syd Barrett himself stated he was simply inspired by a girl he saw after a gig...(after sleeping in the woods on LSD). while he later recanted that story, Nicholas Schaffner, a Floyd biographer, said it was about Emily Young, a British artist (recall Syd was also an artist).
While it can be fun to try to interpret lyrics, it really has to be reasonable - adding long paragraphs of conjecture just seems silly. Syd's songs were not like those by Roger Waters, which often have deep meaning. I'm surprised some of you haven't found 5 paragraphs of meaning behind "Apples and Oranges" too (another one with exteremely simple lyrics). Many of Syd's songs were very simple in concept, lyrics, and guitar chords. The complexity comes in the additional sounds and music added around the main part of the song.
Keep it simple, people. |

How dare you write as if you are syd barrett...using 1st person pronouns to make it sound like you are him. As Syd passed away in 2006 your attempt to post yourself as him, dated 2009, is moronic, disingenuous, false, and sad. What a fool |
