Don Henley – The Boys of Summer Lyrics 11 years ago
To me, this song is about a teenager's first relationship that was lost. It's about the accompanying nostalgia that's both enjoyable to think back on and also a painful experience.

The singer is hung up on moments that seem really superficial to me - his former girl wearing sunglasses, driving her car, having sex or walking on the boardwalk. This is makes me think that this was love of a teenager, a first love that was superficial itself and maybe was doomed to begin with. There doesn't seem to be moments of true compatibility for the singer to reminisce on.

Sure, you made her scream in bed, but what about some real moments that made the singer truly happy to be with this girl? They aren't there, which gives this song a melancholic tone for me. It's about these images of nostalgia stuck on someones head. Nostalgia is always better in memory than when it was actually real.
