A truly beautiful song.
The lyrics are quite sad. They seem to be about coming to a place where you become dissatisfied but are still hopeful that things will change and grow. The music is a bit whimsical and surreal...enforcing the feeling of comfort with what you know to be not quite right. |

| Imogen Heap – Just for Now Lyrics

I actually disagree with the whole family gathering thing. Though I do feel that the song has a distinctly "holiday" feel to it.
First, let me say that when I listen to the whole album through, it seems like it's telling a love story. Getting your heart in a headlock, falling in love, fighting, moving, temptation to cheat- on both sides, all culminating in the end song which almost comes in like a death knoll.
I think this song is about the respite. The time in a relationship when the holidays come and you feel you have to play nice with each other so you don't ruin everyone's time. You play nice with his family "you can never have too many of these", but he keeps kicking you under the table anyway, making you feel you've done something wrong. You want another drink, he thinks you've had enough. You keep biting your tongue and nodding along. Be civil, leave all the bad things in your relationship at home for a little while, and all you really want is out. |

| Imogen Heap – Have You Got It In You? Lyrics

I feel like this song is about the last straw in a relationship. When things are incredibly tense and both sides are waiting for the fight. "One nerve remaining waiting on one look- have you got it in you", it's like she's daring him to push her over the edge. |

I thoroughly agree with all of this, but also I thnk the song is also about their past. Fall Out Boy started out so authentic and passionate and they had such possibility, but despite all of that amazing talent, the industry morphed their art into something unrecognizable. They just wanted to make great rock music for this generation. Now, by being true to themselves and their art, they're back to doing that. I think every great band/artist probably goes through that period where they realize that they've lost something along the way. I'm really proud of them for this album. It's a great piece of music that i'm proud to own. |

| The Decemberists – Shiny Lyrics

The song is about a boy falling in love for the first time at a carnival, and he believed at first that his lover was just as inexperienced as he was, but she isn't. All the "beery boys" know her too well. She lied by saying she was innocent. The shine he speaks of is the light of innocence in her eyes. How can someone have such innocent eyes and clearly be so worldly.
The whole song is a tribute to the loss of innocence. How things and people that appear to be so fun, bright, and childlike (like carnivals) can, as you grow older, prove to be just a facade. |

I think the song is about drama. When women are in relationships, we tend to over think everything. Something as simple as a text message being too short or not getting a phone call at night can set us into a tizzy of "omg, what if...."s. I think the song is about a relationship like that. Where things have gotten so comfortable/boring that she makes up "cry wolf" scenarios to bring him closer. |
