| The Kinks – See My Friends Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| In Storytellers Ray Davies plays this song after talking about his sister who had left for Canada and returned after the war. After a short time she died under tragic circumstances at the age of 30. I think it is not hard to put two and two together to figure out that this song is about the death of his sister and the sadness he felt at the suddeness and finality of her passing. Understanding this makes the lyrics much deeper and sadder. The melancholy of the lyrics and music become more apparent and you can feel his sorrow in your gut. Ray Davies lays it all on the line in this song, sharing his sadness with others who have lost their loved ones. Those friends laying across the river are all the good people who have gone from this world and are laid to rest. Man, it makes me hurt. | |
