I think your interpretation is spot on. I'd like to add the chorus, my favorite part of the song: "Can you take it all away Well you shoved it in my face" Having had lets just say an abusive dad during my early childhood, I see it as the young father talking to his dad, as he is deeply scared by what he did while he was so young and defenceless ( this determines him to be a great dad). My dad has somewhat changed but he feels I hate him and he cannot comprehend why I can't forgive him for things he did so long ago and all I want to answer him is these 2 lines. |
