Then there are the thinly veiled references to death: 'I'm dying for you to make love to me' 'We can do it til we both wake up' (wake used literally, both meanings) 'Let me light a candle' (as in a wake) 'Makin' love until we drown' 'Open up your heart and I'll set you free' (literally, open up your heart) Then there are the references to hiding the 'forbidden love' 'I'll make you feel at home' 'now we're all alone' 'Disconnect the phone so nobody knows' 'Feels so right it can't be wrong' 'I'll set you free' The actions are all the singer, not the recipient: 'I wanna sex you up' 'I wanna rub you down' 'Let me take off all your clothes' 'Let me light a candle' Then there's the gothic imagery, referring to wine offered as a sacrifice before the act, and alluding to blood, open your heart also refers to blood. This song is about Avril Lavigne's closet homosexuality. It's obvious from the title using the word 'boi' and not 'boy' that the male character in this is actually a woman. 'he' was a punk. she did ballet. So you see, the 'boi' is what you could refer to as a dyke, with a similar style to say 'Shane' from the L word. The skater babydyke was interested in a prissy prom princess in the first instance, but then it develops, and she finds she's more interested in similarly styled girls, such as Avril Lavigne. There is a thinly veiled allusion to lesbian sex too. When she sings 'slamming on his guitar', what she actually means is that, she is the guitar, and the 'boi' like to 'strum' her (Avril) and they 'rock each others worlds', because of course, as every lesbian attests, lesbian sex is far better than heterosexual sex. |
