I think this song is about being with someone but it doesnt feel like that person is the love of your life: In the first part of the song we have the statement: Let me out Don't tell me everything Start it out Like any other day Must have gave the wrong impression Don't you understand where I belong? I'm not the one They've been together for a while, and they have a routine but he doesn't feel comfortable with that. The line "I'm not the one" said it all for me, he is telling her that he is not the love of her life, or that he doesn't feel she is the love of her life. Another line that really catch my eye is in the second paragraph: Self-denial is such a wonderful and powerful thing But I'm not the one He is doubting about staying there or leave, but he doesn't feel good when he thinks that so he try to self-denial to give himself some confort. In the chorus he states that he is not afraid, but he is crying because he is confused. The morning dove sings with two broken wings Carry me home, I'm not afraid The stars in my eyes with shimmering lights Carry me home, don't let me fade away In the next part we have this: When you self-destruct you wind up looking for a glimmer of hope But the writing's on the wall I'm not the one He knows they aren't meant to be together, but he is still looking for some kind of hope to believe he should stay. But at last he start to be a little more optimist, wondering if he could find love in another place: Is there somewhere else that I can win Is there something else to start over again From the summit's edge to the cutting room floor I will be afraid no more (no more) And he won't be afraid again, because he will find love, the truly one. I really love this song and I've been there sometimes in my life, damn you Brandon you always know how to say it right. |
