Rise Against – The Good Left Undone Lyrics 11 years ago
As a Christian, I try relate God to everything I do. This even means relating my music to Jesus, secular or not. I believe God speaks through some secular music.

I realize that this is my own interpretation of the song, and not everyone views it the same as I do. But this is how I like to view it.

In fields where nothing grew but weeds,
I found a flower at my feet,
Bending there in my direction,
(Nothing but weeds grow In this field, and there is one beautiful flower)

I wrapped a hand around its stem,
I pulled until the roots gave in,
Finding there what I'd been missing,
(He pulls the beautiful flower out of the ground. Finding there what I'd been missing is a huge foreshadow to the later song.)

But I know...
So I tell myself, I tell myself it's wrong.
There's a point we pass from which we can't return.
I felt the cold rain of the coming storm.
(He knows it was wrong, because the flower could have pollenated to the rest of the field, and grew more beautiful flowers. He says "there's a point we pass to which we can't return." Meaning some mistakes we make, last forever. He "feels the cold rain of the coming storm" he knows that bad things are gonna happen because of this one mistake)

All because of you,
I haven't slept in so long.
When I do I dream of drowning in the ocean,
(What he done to the flower won't let him sleep, and when he does, he has nightmares, and he can't do anything about it.)

Longing for the shore where I can lay my head down. I'll follow your voice, all you have to do is shout it out
(He wants the safe place. The shore. God is on the shore, and the singer is saying I'll follow your voice if you shout it out)

Inside my hands these petals browned,
Dried up, fallen to the ground
But it was already too late now.
I pushed my fingers through the earth,
Returned this flower to the dirt,
So it could live. I walked away now.
(the flower is dying, and he is feeling as guilty as ever. So he tries to fix the mistake and returns the flower to it's home. The dirt.)

All because of you,
I believe in angels.
Not the kind with wings,
No, not the kind with halos,
The kind that bring you home,
When home becomes a strange place.
I'll follow your voice,
All you have to do is shout it out
(All because of you
The flower helped him
See the light, and he believes that God works through people to bring us to him. Even people on Earth could be your angel. Ill follow you Jesus, If lead the way)

I believe the flower represents Christians.
He plucked and ridiculed a Christian to where they were no longer where they could shine their light in the "field of weeds"

He feels guilty about the situation, and he tries to fix the situation with the Christian. Though he is forgiven, that memory still reigns in his memory.

But if it wasn't for that flower (Christian) shining it's light in the baron wasteland, he would've never seen it to begin with.

As a Christian we're gonna get persecuted, and ridiculed, and even "pulled out of the dirt" but we keep our faith in God. But never give up, because even when we do get pulled out of where we are, we still have to have Faith.

The flower (Christian) almost died, but in the end saved the mans life.

Keep living for God even if you get ridiculed, because in the end, you could be light to the persecutors. We are the only Jesus some people see.

Thank you for taking your time and reading.

God bless you all. (:

P.s. Jesus loves you!
