Local Natives – You & I Lyrics 12 years ago
first off, one of my favorites off the album. his voice soars and the emotions run high in this song. in the first verse, he's saying that things were great. but in the second verse, when "his green eyes turned blue", i don't necessarily think that the relationship turned abusive. i think it's just a way of saying that things have changed, both in "you and i". they see each other in a different "shade", different than before. during the "when did your love grow cold?", he wants their love to be hot like it was, which is further explored with the sun metaphor. "the closer i get/ the farther i have to go/ to places we don't know" is his want to be closer, to rekindle their love, but for some reason, it isn't reciprocal. they don't communicate like they once did and therefore don't know where the other person is.

this song speaks to me and recently, i completely relate to it. taking a break from a relationship for personal space makes it seem like you don't know where to go anymore, but all you want is to be with that other person

it's already been said but this is such a beautiful ode to his late mother, patricia. he is praying to her during the chorus, asking as she's watching over him if he is giving enough, loving enough, since he maybe didn't show it enough to her when she was alive and doesn't want to repeat the same mistake.

Keaton Henson – Small Hands Lyrics 12 years ago
i think this song is about the speaker missing his partner because of the his selfish ways, specifically his art and music pursuits.

it's very sad because he is reminiscing the little things and events that mattered a lot to him while they were together. but because he chose his art over his lover, she moved on to someone else. The chorus is his plea for his lover to forget him, even though he hasn't forgotten her.
