| I just got out of my first real relationship I'd say. I was so naïve. I thought I was in love, but he never felt that way for me, and I couldn't handle it. I'm laying in bed at 3:45 am right now, wondering what's wrong with me that he never felt that way? And is he as hurt as me? I interpret this song right now that maybe he could've done something differently, not tried to fight his case all the time, that maybe he tore the relationship apart and tried too hard to make it work to the point it just didn't. That's how I feel right now. I prevented us from working out. And now I'm falling apart because we just went through some much, and he just doesn't feel it. And all I want to do is sleep, but I can't. | |

SGITU, you've got a strong point. I saw The Spirit Science video on astral projection, and it made a lot of sense. It made me curious about what this song is actually about. But it's sadly not about astral projection. :( http://music-mix.ew.com/2009/10/30/owl-city-fireflies-interview/ Adam Young states that: "“Fireflies” was inspired by a camping trip I took up to a totally rustic and kind of remote lake in northern Minnesota, where there isn’t really much of anything. I can remember sleeping out on a dock on the edge of this lake and looking up at the sky. There was a meteor shower that night. I remember thinking, what a cool idea of shooting stars being fireflies, and trying to translate that into music. That’s what spurred it on. I was also influenced by the lack of sleep that tends to happen." |

I interpret it as someone close is going away and moving on with their lives, and getting somewhere. And the person singing has dreams, but they're fading from view because the possibilities just don't seem there. So this person they're close to, they asked for the person leaving to remember them when they're famous, but their relationship is failing because it's getting to their head. But this person still has hope that they can keep a relationship. This is probably my favorite song by Yashin. <3 |
