When I think about it this song seems to be about the first world war and a soldier in it. This is a call to arms, so grab your guns and get your horses. Only the dead have seen the end of this fight. This is a call to arms, so all you fallen soldiers sing with me: Death or glory? So march with me if you believe there's any hope for us. This part is about joining the war and that the war will never end. I've been hiding in these trenches for far too long. All is fair in love and war, so they tell me. That makes me think of the west front that was just soldiers in trenches and much much death. The next lines there makes me think he has a girlfriend/ wife home and he fights for her safety but he see so much terrible things and starts to wonder if it is fair and worth it. Come on, come on, there has to be a better way. Get up, get up, let's leave this mess. I know a place where we can get away from all of this. I've been dreaming of us leaving everything and everyone we've ever known. I've been thinking all these visions must be a sign, so hold on and don't let go. He believes that this war is not worth fighting and wants to get away with his girlfriend/wife. It sounds like he wants to get really far away from where they are, away from all people they have known and away from the war. No, we can't leave until you tell me everything. It is like one of them telling the other their love for them and the bring out your dead is like asking what the problem is |
