| Mae – We're So Far Away Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I believe this song is about MAE itself, and their appreciation for their adventures and fame they've gained along the way. I also think it may hint toward a relationship, but the theories seem too opposing. I'll split my theories into two, so it'll be easier. "Remembering, everything About my world and when you came Wondering the change you'd bring Means nothing else would be the same." Theory One: Remembering putting MAE into the works. MAE in the earliest stages. Wondering, "Where will our music take us? How far will we get? We're a band now, things are going to be changing." Theory Two: A partner. A love. Remembering when this person came into his life and remembering hoe he wondered how they would change him. "Did you know what you were doing, did you know? Did you know how you would move me? Well, I don't really think so But the night came down and swept us away And the stars they seemed To paint the most elaborate scene to date" Theory One (cont.): The fans. Did they realize how much they would move MAE? Do they understand how much they mean to MAE? A thank-you of sorts, perhaps? Maybe the starry scene represents a memorable concert. Maybe a favorite concert under the stars. And it felt amazing for them. Theory Two (cont.): Did their person realize what they were doing? Did they realize how impressionable he was? And how they could just break his heart if they wanted to? But the night swept them away, and it didn't matter. He became so enchanted that he forgot there was a chance that he could have his feelings crushed. He recalls how the night sky looked, and he remembers the feeling of being with that person. "How could we know? That song, this show We'd learn so much about ourselves From Toledo to Tokyo The words were scribed on every page And now there's books up on our shelves" Theory One (cont.): How could MAE predict that they would come so far? How could they possibly know that this adventure, with all of the concerts and fans, the touring around would help them become so intimate with theirselves? They've had so many adventures (words) that they had to turn them into books. Theory Two (cont.): How could he know that this relationship would help them learn so much about each other, and themselves as well. Like in Theory One, they've had so many good times that if they had to be put into words, they would have to be turned into books. "Did you know how you would move us, did you know? When the light first came upon us And we saw the everglow And the moment's magic swept us away And a young man's dream Was almost seen so plain" Theory One (cont.): Again, did the fans, and everyone else supporting know how inspirational they would be to the band? The Everglow represents stage lights. The band was so filled with amazement the moment just swept them away. It was astonishing in the most magical way to them. Dave's (the lead singer of MAE) dream was practically right in front of him. Theory Two (cont.): When love first struck them. His dreams of having someone who loves him, and vice versa were coming true. "When was the night that showed us the sign Revealed in the sky to leave all behind? But where to begin? Throwing caution to the wind We'll reach for the stars Everything was now ours" Theory One (cont.): The band is asking theirselves, now realizing how far they've come, "How did this happen? We've come so far. When did we see that we could become this? MAE? Where do we begin? We're reaching for the stars. There's nothing to worry about." And they feel, when they're playing, that the world is theirs. Everything is theirs. Theory Two (cont.): He's asking his love, bust mostly himself, "When did we realize we were right for each other? When did we realize we'd leave our friendship behind. Everything we were before now?" He remembers how they didn't even know where to begin with being involved romantically, but they threw away their doubts and decided they loved each other. That's all that mattered. Everything was theirs. They could rule everything as long as they had each other. "Did you know how you would move me, did you know? Did you know how you would move me? Well, I don't even think so But the moment's magic swept us away And it's so close, but we're so far away It's so close, but we're so far away" Theory One (end): Dave is asking everyone if they knew how they would move him specifically, as opposed to asking for the whole band this time. This song was written in 2005, and so I think he's saying, they've played concerts. It's amazing. The dream is right here, now. However, we're so far away from the end. We've still got a long way to go. We're so far away. Theory Two (end): Their love is so close. They're together. But maybe he feels they both aren't putting all their effort into their relationship. They themselves are far away. Their love is dying out. This song is so beautifully written, and so beautifully played. I feel one of these days I'm going to be listening to it and break down crying. It touches me so deeply, it's so intimate and the beauty makes it even more tragic-sounding. I love this song; and if you've never heard it, I think you should go check it out right this instant. |

| Kings of Convenience – I'd Rather Dance With You Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This song is about just having a good time with someone, by dancing. He doesn't feel like he could say anything of interest. He probably can't think of anything to say, because he hasn't recently read anything, and the only movie he saw he really wasn't impressed with. It's kind of when you're sitting around with a friend, and you come across one of those lingering silent moments, then you just kind of look to them and say, "Let's do something." And in this case, something is dancing! Maybe you can't make each other laugh by telling a joke, or talking. And the party's pretty noisy. So there's really no use in trying to say something, anyhow. But you can imitate the guy who's singing, or do a silly dance, and that's sure to get at least a smile out of you. It's a very sweet song, and it has a very nice rhythm. It makes you want to put yourself in the position of the person he's talking to. Very nice! |
