i think the song is how no matter the differences, they will always be the same. "I had a dream - that we flew on golden wings And we were the same -just the same - you and I". and when the artist says, i had a dream that we were the same, probably means, they are totally different. he had a dream they were still the same despite their differences. I always took it as a racial way, as if one was black and one was white, and they were the same, and were brothers. |

i think the song is about his brother dying, like the lyrics " And Momma asked me this morning, if I’d been by your grave". and it seems as if it was a sudden death, "Shook my fist and asked God why". It could be that he died in the army, "But that flag and stone ain’t where I feel you anyway". that is truly what i think. |
