I feel very much like the protagonist has trouble dealing with his future, though he is damn sure he can't go back to how it was (the scorched earth). His future is cloudy however, and he realises he can't control it: "the dice slip through his fingers". He still has a hard time dealing with it though. |

He loves her, but he also hates that he loves her because the relationship is clearly disfunctional, Apart from that, the instrumentals really help the mood that comes along with the lyrics, where he loves her the lyrics can even be considered upbeat. When he hates her, it becomes dark and gloomy again. Awesome "rollercoaster" song... |

This song feels to me like the man is expressing his anger about having hopes and dreams when he was young, until he got hit by the ugly truth that he cannot achieve these things and has to settle down. He then becomes angry because he realises people are annoyed by his anger over everything and falls into a downward spiral... |
