What I feel and always thought was that this song is about dreaming in ways. The way the morning broke was quite unusual That weird, strange feeling you get when you wake up from a strange dream that you can't stop thinking about and doesn't make much sense but its stuck in your brain. Its with you for the better part of the day. In less time than it takes to tell You know there's a point or a conclusion but you just can't find it. I should have wakened up at once, But this was no concern of mine, So I kept on dreaming Might have been better if you did just wake and won't. And I felt like And I felt like being numbed, I felt like mesmerized Waking up and trying to hard to fool yourself that you can fall back asleep and continue the dream....to either figure it out or to enjoy it. The rest I believe is part of the lyric writers personal dreams. This is my interpretation of the song and I'm sticking with it. It's what it means to me. I could be wrong by the writer but its mine. |

I agree with comment above. Love that sound! I think this song is about bad/weird/unexplainable dreams, and a good chance of them being drug induced. I really like the live version the best on You god Damn Son Of A Bitch. One of my favorite songs to listen to while I'm "out of my head". Beyond wasted and this song go together. |

One of my favorite Killing Joke songs. I don't know really what they had in mind with this song, but to me it's very, very deep. I look at it in a way as to the fight inside us. To do what is right, whether what you think is right, society or law (you vs them)....going against what is considered wrong (again, you vs them). Knowing in your heart as to what you are want to do and be. Is it wrong? How about if someone tells you it is? Can it be wrong? People can and will get hurt by you. But it's what YOU have to do/be. A crazy balance act of guilt and pleasure and others expectations of you in this society. It's hard to love yourself, and harder to be yourself these days....without someone telling you it's wrong or sick or mentally screwed up.... but its still in you and is you. Doesn't make you right, but it does make you you. Other people can make you feel bad about who you are and what you do and you can feel it as well, but it's still there and can't be taken away. |

It's about greed. How the rich could care less about those below them (economically and class wise). No balance ("imbalance induces hate, how will you bridge the gap, between the endless buffets and the empty plate I have....I feel hate") and a trigger for someone to react. Also goes into a dream/fantasy as to how it would be for the rich to be poor. Can you feel it? Does it matter to you now (with the wealth)? Have you learned? No! And express yourself, never hold back (DON'T BE AFRAID TO SHOW YOUR HATE....HATE!!!!) One of Killing Jokes most angry songs. I wish it was still on their set list. It should be a staple. You have to feel something when listening to this song (and knowing the lyrics)....no matter where you stand. |
