| You are correct. I was about to type a post similar to yours. Your interpretation is completely spot-on. I came to the same conclusion-except for the deck of cards, I wasn't sure of how to interpret that-and I realized that this song is so very incredible because of how well it captures what it feels like to be trapped in a depressive/self-loathing state of mind. It feels like a windowless box. In a way, it could easily be interpreted as a prison. "Up but mostly down" perfectly describes how life is when you can't move past your past mistakes and forgive yourself. You get these highs and they can last a while, but when you do hit a down time, it feels like a continuation of every other moment of morosity. In reality, up and down is the general course of life, but because the person in this song can't move past the downs, they feel stuck in room that is getting smaller and smaller as the pressure that falls on one when they do not forgive themselves builds. These lyrics are riddled with such an honesty that only comes experiencing that unfortunately dark state of mind. Ken06 you totally nailed the meaning of this song. | |

I thought I was hearing The caveman distorted your sight Saw you benighted by your pride I thought the chorus was speaking of overly prideful tendencies of man or something like that. Guess I was wrong lol. |
