| I think it should be "if i think too much, i CAN get overwhelmed" not can't. It makes more sense if its can. Then these lines "It's a fragile thing this life we lead, if I think too much, I can get overwhelmed by the grace, by which we live our lives with death over our shoulders." would become one of the best lyrical description of life. Its an appreciation of the grace by which we live our fragile lives while all the while death can come at any moment. Sounds like the concept of grace given by M. Scott Peck in Road less travelled. | |

He talks about a fork in the road (which way sign) at which all truants have to decide to choose one or the other side. Some can choose fame and then they'll become a typical celebrity who'd strip and sell his own mom and auction his own forearm. He'd also shave his face and leave whiskers in the sink. Shaving is symbolic of becoming a society approved celebrity instead of a bearded truant. while some do this, the rest who are still truants move on. But they cannot stay long because truants just can't stay celebrities. So some die just to live. Just to get away from all the hype of stardom. |

I think this is about celebrity in general and sometimes about Kurt in specific. "Vacate is the word. Vengeance has no place so near to her. Cannot find the comfort in this world." These lines refer to Kurt. Vacate is the word shows the growing apart and leaving of two lovers such as Kurt and Courtney. There is no chance of getting a revenge or hurting her because his daughter is near. And so he can't find any comfort in the world, doesn't feel like living. "Artificial tear. Vessel stabbed, next up, volunteers? Vulnerable wisdom can't adhere." could also be about Kurt. Maybe it refers to an artificial tear shed by Courtney for their growing apart. Vessel stabbed is obviously about heroine. Next up volunteers could be Kurt thinking about anyone else who would want to take her place. Kurt was vulnerable and he couldn't grow wise. Wisdom couldn't adhere to him. "A truant finds home, and a wish to hold on, but there's a trap door in the sun. Immortality." This is also about Kurt. He's a truant meaning someone who goes against prescribed rules of the society. He finds a home in the band and wants to hold on to the purity of the band. The sun is celebrity status and there is a trap door in the sun which sucks all celebrities through it. Immortality is the reference to fame. "As privileged as a whore. Victims in demand for public show. Swept out through the cracks beneath the door. Holier than thou. How? Surrendered, executed, anyhow. Scrawl dissolved. Cigar box on the floor." This verse is more about all celebrities in general. Comparing a celebrity to a whore who has to prostitute himself. They are victims who are in demand to put on a public show. And when they get old they are swept through the cracks beneath that trapdoor in the sun. Then he asks why are celebrities judged on their every move. Are they holier than thou? They are also humans and can make mistakes. The last two lines are definitely about Kurt again. Scrawl is his suicide note which maybe get dissolved in his blood? And everybody knows about the cigar box on the floor. "A truant finds home, and I wish to hold on too, but saw the trap door in the sun. Immortality." This verse might be about himself. He too is a truant and he too has found his home with his music and band. He too wishes to hold on and he sees the trap door in the sun. "I cannot stop the thought of running in the dark. Coming up a which way sign, all good truants must decide. Stripped and sold mom. Auctioned forearm and whiskers in the sink. Truants move on, cannot stay long. Some die just to live. " The first two lines are about him again. He's scared of getting lost in all this fame and there's a decision to make about fame that every truant has to make. I can't understand the next two lines that well but maybe its about how some celebrities might even strip and sell their moms. They'll auction their own forearm. And become clean shaved which is a sign to stop being a truant who usually would be related to unshaven faces. While some people do this, other truants, who are still truants, move on. But they can't stay long and probably will have to die just to be able to live. And that's the whole story of fame. |

I think this is a spiritual song about life in general. The girl in the video is every human and the carnival of rust is life. She is attracted by the doll and wants to win it. When she does she's happy. The doll represents all worldly possessions that we all run after. Once she leaves the carnival though, she slowly lets go of the doll because these possessions are not going to last us after this life is over. This is my interpretation of the video. In the lyrics, I think it's again about life and spirituality and religion and faith. "Do you breathe the name of your savior in your hour of need" is a simple comment at most people who only remember God when they are facing a problem. "And taste the blame if the flavor reminds you of greed" is about all of us being greedy in life but we only feel that we are doing a sin when we are in our hour of need and remembering God and that's when we are reminded of our greed. "Of implication, insinuation and ill will till you cannot lie still in all this turmoil before red cape and foil comes closing in for a kill" these lines means that we feel guilty and our ill will comes to the fore and insinuations and implications suggest that we've been sinners only when we are about to die. This all causes a turmoil and we think of god. Red cape and foil closing in for a kill means the reaper coming to take us with him. So this whole verse is about us having lived a greedy life, now feeling guilty once our death comes near. "come feed the rain coz i'm thirsty for your love dancing underneath the skies of lust, yeah feed the rain coz without your love my life is nothing but a carnival of rust" these lines are a prayer or a request to god to come and fill us with his love. Sadly we only think like this when red cape and foil comes closing in for a kill! "It's all a game, avoiding failure when true colors will bleed. All in the name of misbehavior and things we don't need." this is a description of life. It's a game where we try to avoid failure and this pursuit brings out our true colors or character. And it's all in the name of accumulating possessions that we don't really need to be happy. Misbehavior i think is about our morals and the type of character and personality we try to portray. "I lust for after no disaster can touch, touch us anymore. And more than ever i hope to never fall, where enough is not the same it was before" I think these lines mean "I lust for after (where) no disaster can touch us anymore" meaning that i now lust for the future where no more pain will reach us anymore and all our problems will be gone. And i hope that i'll never fall to that place where enough is not the same it was before. it could mean that if you save me i'll change my ways in this life or it could mean moving on to the next life. the place where enough is not the same it was before of course is this life, where we try to get just enough to be happy but enough is never enough and we have to get more and more. "Don't walk away when the world is burning , don't walk away when the heart is yearning" is a prayer like don't forsake us please. I think this is a great song with a great video but the best part are the lyrics. it's amazing how everybody interprets lyrics in their own ways. a lot of people here feel it's about relationships. I can only see that it's spiritual in nature. it's almost a prayer to god. And a beautiful description of this life. I guess it's just because of where I am in my own life and others are in different places in their lives. But that's the hallmark of great lyrics, they can mean different things to different people. Awesome song! |
