| Biffy Clyro – Black Chandelier Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This song speaks of two people who really share the same feelings, both doubts and love. Even if it is painful they don't reach the goal to separate! I think the "black chandelier" is a symbol of a greater instance that makes them want to separate on the one hand, but on the other hand, it keeps them together. This undefinable "instance" is love - love is an ability and also a DECISION: they choose to stick together despite all hate and quarrel. | |
| Imagine Dragons – The River Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| The main idea of the song is cleansing: It's not only that the speaker tries to wash away someone else's sins he has not committed. He perceives his cleaning as senseless as he notices that he washes away his sins only for the purpose of rising in other peoples' favor. Essentially, his sins are just sins in the eyes of the others. | |
| CHVRCHES – Recover Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| "If I recover"... from what exactly? Everyone knows the situation when he or she is in a bad shape. What he/she needs is a comfort, a ray of hope. Being a comfort is mastering the greatest task in life: loving. Love is not just an abstract word, but an ability anybody has to learn. Love is not only an object, a partner, but also "a decision we have to face". Nobody can decide for someone else: You decide all by yourself what the envelope contains. | |
| Little Green Cars – The Kitchen Floor Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
And in a moment, I had forgotten all the things that you had said to me I think just like a child You try to burn my mind All it is is dangerous to me The speaker is deeply belied, he starts to think that all the partner does is directed against him. He does not really reflect upon this, he intuits it like a child would do. And through the kitchen door I see you're on the floor Said you never wanted me to see I guess what's done is done It looks like you had fun I'll just go inside and watch tv The speaker witnesses his partner doing something upsetting. He decides to accept it and pretend that nothing happend (he watches tv). We cannot really say what kind of secret it is. I've been enough and it gets rough when all the people stare talk on the streets and in my faces that we are not living I'm just a cast you had removed when all the pain was over I'll sit at home you'll never know the things you make me think of you make me think of The speaker perceives himself as a “cast”, having been “enough” to help his partner to come to terms with his/her pain. By using the word “removed” the author delineates that the partner did not even consider the speaker as a person but more as a thing that can be removed. Moreover, the speaker suffers from other people staring at him and being the object of their conversations. Accused of “not living”, it seems that the relationship of the speaker and his beloved is nothing but burden since they are not able to “live”. The speaker claims that he won't share his life with this partner any longer, no more compliments, no more “things” he/she “makes him think of”. And when I think about the times you carried out everything you said you never would Pick up the telephone I ring my friends at home they say I should stop I think I should As the partner breaks promises, the speaker calls his friends who advise him to stop sticking with his beloved. He himself doubts this relationship now, but nevertheless he does not terminate it. And in a moment I try forgetting everything you've ever said to me I think about the mountain and how I've never been there probably because I was with you In these lines the speaker seems to recognize that he has been smitten, he remembers a situation in which he was on a mountain. He cannot really remember the situation because he only had eyes for his partner. You say enough You think you're tough to say to me it's over I'm out the door but I'm not sure if I've forgotten something You lie awake you try to make amends cause your not sleeping I'll sit at home you'll never know the things you make me think of You make me think of The partner is convinced of being on the right track by breaking up. The speaker leaves the house without knowing whether he has forgotten to say something. Feeling certain about being wronged, the speaker knows his partner will feel guilty. He will not share his insights with this partner anymore. All in all, we can state that the speaker is a person that is not “tough” enough to terminate the relationship he is in. His partner starts to break his promises and does something traumatizing in the kitchen of which we cannot definitely say whether it is drug usage, an affair or a secret of a different kind. The speaker treats this situation with indifference since he knows the relationship has to end. As he himself cannot do it, he waits until his partner does it, he/she feels very “tough” - the speaker knows his value for his partner and seems to finally find deliverance in knowing that the partner would feel guilty and would not get to sleep any longer.
