Simon and Garfunkel – For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is an incredible description of a man's vision as to how he will feel when he finds the love of his life, Emily. The songs lyrics express this future event. That someday he will have a dream with incredible warmth that expresses the intense love he has for Emily.

The songwriters lyrics demonstrate an inital solitude as he walks alone. As Emily runs to him the song emphasizes the simple touch of her hand. This moment, as he walks alone dreaming of love, to suddenly experiencing this love, is where he realizes how blessed he is to have found such profound happiness, with Emily.

The first stanza describes, metaphorically, Emily. It describes what she is wearing, soft red cotton, (organdy, crinoline, burgundy) and that her presence is soft as the rain. It could also be interpreted as the literal vision of the dream. it is blurry as dreams are. Organdy is transluscent cotton. He sees the dream in a hazy vision like organdy and crinoline. It is dark, like a burgundy, yet feels soft as though something wonderful and calming was going to happen.

The second stanza describes a solitude and the time he has waited while hoping to find the love of his life.

The third stanza describes the realization of this love.

The fourth stanza is the actual reality of the love, a final expression of love for Emily and his grateful feelings, not toward Emily, but toward his God.
