Along with nearly every other song on this fantastic album, this song is about sex: the excitement, the high and low points of a relationship and the bitterness of the break-up, sleeping around with people and having fun etc. "The devil in your throat and in your thighs" She's being naughty and talking dirty to him, pulling some moves to get him in the mood. "Fumble with the stranger in your bed, condemn it to the great abyss instead, whatever suits you" He's saying she can do what she wants as long as she's happy, such as sleeping with random people or no one until she's in a relationship. "It finished with the stars in your eyes, Jesus on your breath and in your bite, listen to the pleading and the cries, make a chorus of you" The break-up. She's obviously not happy about it and is crying, begging for him to take her back. "Fuck yourself into the record books instead, it's what you were born to do" Things are turning bitter. She's continued to sleep around and he's basically saying that her only reason for living is to be a slag. "The promises, the promises we made, another great, another great mistake. A little love, a little bit more hate, it's just about as much as I can take" He's thinking back to the relationship they had, how he thought he could change her of her dirty ways and that he regrets it all. However, this is just my interpretation. |
