@bainrex7, I think you are over thinking this... Maybe she took it to take a piece of him with her and then found a note that he was going to give to her. And bride could be used by an 80 year old man talking about his wife of 60 years. It's just another way of saying wife. I get the whole song. I love the subtle meanings in the lyrics.
