hmm. to me it sounds like some girl has kind of unloaded her problems on him, and he's just kind of awkwardly trying to comfort her. the first stanza: he knows she's upset lately and he wants her to feel better again. I don't know what the word of peace means, can anyone help there? the next part, she's told him about her abusive boyfriend. (that's why she's a catastrophe girlfriend now) again, he's not that good at comforting her past "wow, I'm sorry, he shouldn't do that" and telling her she'll get out of the little tiny town they're in. the first part of the next stanza seems straightforward. I'm not sure that it's actually the costumers that look old though...? more likely the customers. because she's a waitress. I'm not sure if the last stanza means she's a mother, or if the kids are just her peers. anyway, yeah he tells her she can do great things and show them. it's all kind of generic "what you're supposed to say" comfort. oh, and I think she's kind of a mess of a person, like she's probably perpetually in crises. hence the catastrophe status. |
