Fake Problems – ADT Lyrics 12 years ago
Frankly, I think this song is about being in high school (or most social situations where people have a bad liking towards you) and not fitting in and just waiting to get home already.

The first verse is like about the people who complain about their lives in high schools even though they're the super popular people with friends and don't get made fun of and stuff, and Chris would gladly rather be them when he hears them complain. He's always sitting in the back of the room or trying to get away by using the bathroom (god knows in high school I spent 30 minutes of class just wandering the halls or sitting in the handicap stall to waste time and avoid the people I dislike) or wandering the halls, because he's just so out of place and doesn't fit in. He wants to fit in so he tries to say something funny or clever but everybody just makes fun of him more for that, not even on the fact that it was funny or not, but just because they don't like him. I know that one for sure.

The chorus is kind of just about his way to get through the day. Tapping his feet to his heartbeat or to a good song stuck in his head to pass the time, waiting to get home and watch some good shows on television alone because that's his escape at home and that's what he enjoys doing. But even still, he'd like to just have a friend to talk to.

The second verse is kind of about not necessarily social anxiety, but about what people think about him and how it affects him so. What is he expected to be? Should he even speak? Should he pretend to be someone he's not? He just wants to be away from them; be home, or anywhere else, really. If he could, he wouldn't have to tell them the things he feels the urge to say.

The bridge is pretty explanatory.

Yeah, I relate to this song so well. Just how I felt in school. Love these guys.

Sharks – Patient Spider Lyrics 12 years ago
This song holds a special place in my heart, because the meaning is super super deep. It actually changed the way I think about everything in the world upon hearing it when it came out last year. Especially when I see a little spider or a bug just hanging around my window or the house. I'll guide it out, but I will never kill another creature intentionally.

I guess the idea of the song is the use of the metaphor of a spider, a commonly hated creature, with one of the most common phobias being related to them. But in actuality, is killing a spider on your window worth it? What did the spider do to you? Do you really think it knew it invaded your home? Of course, not. Most people will go out of their way to kill a spider, but in the end, the spider is harmless - the spider will be very peaceful and will coexist (let's exclude black widows and tarantulas and stuff, though). Most common household spiders in basements/etc. only bother you if you bother them. Why kill the spider? Why even both the spider? Coexist with it. The spider doesn't realize it's in your home. It's built it's home in yours, but it doesn't mean any harm or offense.

"Oh patient spider, we can share my windowsill. What right do I have to ruin your home? What right do I have to kill?" This lyric hits me the most. What right does anybody have to kill? We all have a right to what we believe in and we all have a right to be alive - nobody should be allowed to take it from us.

The spider metaphors apply to everyday society and the ills of war/homicide/genocide/etc.. We all deserve to be alive. The chorus is about how he's finally realized that the spider means no harm, and he's ready to coexist with it. It doesn't bother him anymore. It used to keep him up at night while he was realizing this, perhaps (or maybe there's some deeper meaning in the whole "spent nights awake" bit.

Overall, it's just about living with things you don't necessarily want to live with, because things aren't really as bad you want to perceive them to be.

Frank Turner – The Way I Tend to Be Lyrics 12 years ago
Easily the best song on the record. The meaning is pretty explanatory, as most of the album follows the whole "post-breakup" think. It's just about the girl Frank used to love and how she's no longer with him but he really truly loves and misses her. I know that feel. Once again though, Frank NEVER disappoints with the absolute genius of his music. This one in particular brought a tear to my eye, cause I've been feeling relatively the same way recently.

Matthew Ryan – I can't steal you Lyrics 12 years ago
I'm like crying so hard over this right now. I saw him and Brian Fallon do this one night in Terminal 5 and wasn't into it because I was just there for Gaslight, but now this one means a lot to me cause I'm going through the same sort of thing Matthew seems to sing about.

I love a girl so much. Frankly, she loves me too, but she's just not ready for a relationship. But now my persistence has pushed her away a little further, and I don't know what to do. I feel sick to my stomach. Physically ill over her. And I can't steal her. It's hard to listen to the sad Gaslight songs now, because we've shared so much over The Gaslight Anthem, and now it just hurts to listen to them. I know she'll come around one day. I know it. We're best friends and I have nobody else. It's just so hard in this situation specifically. I'm just glad there are songs like this to relate to. "I know there's someone out there feeling just like I feel" Brian Fallon's lyrics go.

Blind Guardian – The Bard's Song (In the Forest) Lyrics 12 years ago
Frankly, I think this song, while absolutely inspired by the work of Tolkien, is more of a song that's more personal. To me, as a total nerd and having grown older, I would give anything to go back to my nerdy childhood of fantasy, role-playing, dragons, video games, and all these sorts of things. And to me, this song is all about that. The bard's songs will remain. In my thoughts and in my dreams they're always in my mind.

The last lyric is what really makes it mean a lot to me. "Come and close your eyes, you can see them too." If I close my eyes, I also can faintly go back to my childhood. And listening to Guardian doesn't hurt either.

I believe Blind Guardian and other fantasy metal bands I loved as a kid (and new ones I'm still discovering that I have no idea how I never did when I was younger, like Kamelot, for instance) and all those games I used to play and all that stuff.
