| Pavement – Westie Can Drum Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| It's no secret that Malk doesn't think too highly of Westy's drumming. This is probably the most passive aggressive dis in the history of disses. But also a friendly one. | |

I am not digging too deep with this one, but here goes (many have already hit this particulary tune out of the park, BTW). I won't go line-by line, but the best part is "our love is beans and rice and horse's lard" Literally, this is a dish eaten in some latin communities, which would make sense that Black Francis would know about it because of his time in Puerto Rico. Anyway, the thing about the dish: 1) It's probably delicious, but really unhealthy -- just like the relationship in the song. 2) most people would say "ewwww!" and refuse to eat a dish with horse's lard in it, just as most people would find this particular relationship to be a bit repulsive. We have non-monogomous lovers catching STDs and turning each other on through basically unhealthy behavior. Regarding the preachy-preach / kissy kiss. This is strange and wonderful. It could go so many ways... It could be that he was confiding in somebody (could, literally be a priest, but not likely given the character's behavior) or a confidante who was being "preachY" about the whole situation. (the situation is kissy-kiss -- basically a sex fest going in various directions). Instead of moralizing or offering advice, the confidant buys him a soda and, seeing an opportunity to get sexually involved in such a morass, gives it a go! Pretty awesome! |
