Elbow – My Sad Captains Lyrics 8 years ago
Most of us who have visited this page would understand the sentiment of this fantastic piece of art elbow created. The wistful memories we have of old friends as we get older with more commitments and less time, and the magic we feel whenever we get together again or think about them. An edited account from guy garvey for the Spotify live sessions which you should all check out

"We find ourselves writing drinking anthems to friendship alot, it's not a massive leap of the imagination to figure out why. This chorus I owe to the founder of Pennsylvania, he said 'I think I shall pass this way but once and not return again' and something about that sentiment delighted my friend Peter who is my best mate and a hedonistic geordie. If you said Pete would you like another pint, he'd go 'we pass this way but once' like that. So Pete helped me with that element of the chorus."

Something I find myself using for my amusement. Thanks elbow, yet another beautiful song you've shared with us.

Oasis – Turn Up The Sun Lyrics 9 years ago
Stomping Andy bell song. First 2 verses seem to be explaining himself to the band and how he is who he is. From then on in he's directly speaking about (and to) the two Gallagher's (boys in the bubble, they got so blind they can't see etc) then is telling them to turn up the sun and just love one another (for everyone to enjoy). He then suggests that he shouldn't need to babysit them when they argue/fall out (I'm not your keeper) and that only those two can sort out their (famous) problems (I don't have the key). Further reasons I feel this about the song, is the clever way bell has both brothers singing every single word together after the opening verses as if he is almost trying to force them to love one another like some weird musical therapist, as if some sort of mantra for them both will solve the problems. Genius if so. Great great tune always takes me back to summer 2005.

The Charlatans (UK) – Forever Lyrics 10 years ago
To live forever and never die, and also how the parent loves there child forever. Once you have children its hard to understand how everyone else lives there life. My thought, could be something completely different. Stomping tune, amazing band

I have always taken it to be about becoming a father and how it changes your perspective on everything. The way a child wants

Ian Brown – The Gravy Train Lyrics 11 years ago
The poetic words for the two verses are truly beauty in art.
