This song by Ed Sheeran is somewhat very sentimental and I feel as though it has a clear message within its lyrics. He is obviously singing about an unborn baby which passed away before birth, which is assumable from the last two lines. Throughout the entire song, he gives such detail which provides a clear image in ones imagination. It is truly lovely as a small story with a heartfelt message which could touch many. |

I believe this song is about being alone and depressed. The singer is viewing the rest of the world and noticing how people will mindlessly go along with it, incapable of making their own decisions. This is reflected in the third stanza, “People talking without speaking. People hearing without listening”. The action is then reflected as the ‘Sound of Silence’. |
